Saeri twirled in the mirror. Her silk black gown flowing effortlessly around her legs. It seemed to hug every curb of her body, the center cut exposing down to her hips. Her necklace was long, a pendant resting at waist level. She smiled softly at her reflection, she had chosen the perfect shade of red for her lips. She pulled her golden hair into a bun, pinning any loose ends that fell. She heads towards her dresser where a black hooded cloak lay. It had been a gift from Thane many moons ago to aide her in their secrecy. She pulled the cloak around her neck, tightening the silk ribbon under her chin. The hood is pulled over her face, only her deep red smile now visible.
The candles are blown out, the smoke escapes through the window as she presses it open. She climbs onto the seal and gently pushes herself to the ground outside, landing with no more than a feint 'thud'. She pulls the window closed, turning to face the forest with a brave heart. The darkness that shrouded Darkshire was heavy, the eerie nights always seemed be full of unknown. The wind cuts through her gown, chilling the hairs down her neck. She pulls her cloak around her tightly, for the horrors that lay before her were far beneath her need to see Thane.
She made her way treading lightly along their secret path. Their intimacy had to be kept private, for worgen were not welcome in Darkshire, the Nobles saw them as nothing more than cursed dogs. Her light steps almost as silent as the forest that surround her, twigs snapping and leaves crisping under each step. She had to take caution not to awaken the arachnid that had homed the hallows of the trees, carefully stepping over any web that strung over their path.
At the end of the pathway a magnificent structure lay before her eyes, the oldest hallowed tree in the forest, seeming to loom over Darkshire itself as it appeared to reach into the sky. She lowered her hood and clenched her pendant in anticipation.
Suddenly, a wolf appeared out of the darkness faintly. Without caution Saeri approached the wolf, extending her fingertips over his chest to caress him intimately. She trailed her hand along his neck, playing with his fur as her fingers seem to dance along his skin. "Thane, my King. It has been too long since we have seen one another," her voice is smooth and her body holds no tension as she moves closer to his frame. She presses her head into his chest, his warmth bringing safety as she closes her eyes, breathing him in. His growl is low, she feels it crawl over her entire body. Her velvet lips form a grin as she looks up to meet the wolf's gaze. "Thane, what is wr-" she freezes. She expected her King's heavenly eyes to grace hers. Eyes the color of an Elven field, a green she could get lost in endlessly. The wolf's red stare startled Saeri, his lip curling sharper with each passing moment. Thick drool slides off the worgen's jaw falling onto Saeri's shoulder, this was not Thane.
Fear seemed to thicken Saeri's blood nearly turning her to stone. Her eyes shift rapidly to her right, where a second worgen lurks out of the darkness, snarling at her with hunger. The smell of gunpowder warms her nose, the sound of shots nearly shake Saeri out of her skin. In panic she leaps backwards, her spine jolting pain through her body as it hits the massive tree heavily. Saeri's instincts became that of prey, and she runs.
The worgen immediately drop to all fours, their ears pinned and their teeth bared. Their paws making loud 'thuds' on the ground as they chased, drool flinging from their mouths as they shook with each leap. With legs running wild, Saeri reaches into her satchel and grabs a vial filled with glittering blue dust. She holds it tightly as she turns around to see the worgen chasing her. Panic overwhelms her as she drops the vial to the ground. The vial breaks causing the dust to surround Saeri and within moments, she is invisible. The worgen stop abruptly in their tracks, nearly toppling over each other as they slide through the dirt of the forest floor.
She hadn't meant to use the dust quite yet, she was still nearly feet in front of the their rabid snouts, though she knew she needed to escape the worgen regardless. Her scent would lead them to follow her to the village, but she needed to find Althea. She made her way quickly through the hallowed trees, making no attempt to avoid pulling the webs that lay beneath the leaves on the ground.
After traveling several moments she had seemed to loose the worgen that trail behind her. As lights from the village came into view, she could see several people running towards her. "No! Turn around, the forest isn't safe!" She screamed and tried to grab the attention of the people flying past her. She sighs heavily and her eyes fill with sadness knowing the fate of those fleeing into the forest.
She shakes her head at the sound of Althea's voice and runs rapidly through the forest. She could see the lights of the village even closer and could make out the figure coming towards her. "Saeri! I've been looking for you!" Althea grabs Saeri and hugs her closely. "There has been an invasion on the village! We managed to take down quite a few of the worgen, but the undead are swarming the village."
The two continue to stride through the forest and soon emerge to a scene of terror. The dirt beneath them a light pink, the ground underneath the entire village was tinged from the bloodshed. Worgen lay in piles, the severed heads of the undead laying on the ground chattering their teeth as the two passed. As they made their way to the Inn Althea pointed to a worgen laying near Saeri's home, "I found that one by your front door, good thing you were- wait, where were you?"
Saeri stopped. She dropped to her knees as her breath left her. Her heart in agony, seeming to freeze as the color from her entire body faded to white. Both her hands held tightly over her mouth stifling a scream. Releasing her hands to the ground she crawled to the wolf in tears, thrashing dirt behind her. The worgen lay with his head turned to Saeri, his eyes soft and his breath more shallow with every exhale. She threw herself atop of the wolf, resting her head on his chest. "Thane?" she cried out as she could barely see through her tears. "Why are you here?" she looked around at the other lifeless beasts and gritted her teeth, "No, you were supposed to meet me in the forest.."
Her face was red, her cheeks were wet. Her lipstick had faded and her hair had fallen out of a bun completely, laying loosely along her face. Saeri was in denial, how could he be here in her arms so weak? How could his green eyes hold such emptiness? She clenched to his fur so tight it nearly pulled out pieces under her nails. She screamed in anger turning to Althea, "What have you done?!" Althea stared at Saeri blankly, a puzzled look across her face. Saeri hears Thane whisper and leans down close, his teeth nearly catching her ear and his cold snout moistening her hair, "I was coming to.. rescue.. my Queen." his breath shallow in between. Saeri grabbed his face between her hands, and presses her lips against his begging, "No, don't leave me.. please!" Silence fell upon the wolf and his eyes closed slowly. His paw had been clenching Saeri's robe so tightly, his claws nearly tearing the fabric away. Saeri's lover Thane, was gone.
